Skerries Mills is a truly unique historical site, as it’s the only location in Europe that boasts two windmills, a watermill and bakery. The oldest mill on the current site dates back to c1460.

Situated in the picturesque seaside town of Skerries in County Dublin, Skerries Mills offers visitors an opportunity to understand how Ireland’s ancestors harnessed wind and water energies through the unique combination of onsite buildings that include the Watermill and Bakery (where flour has been milled since the 12th century), the Four Sail Windmill, dating back to c.1460 and the Five Sail Windmill dating back to c.1821. As visitors move through the 5 acre site, they can try their hand at stone grinding, witness the 17th century water wheel in action and learn how the mill’s Blackstone engine was used in 1928 to power machinery. Following a stroll through the wheat crop field towards the traditional reed thatched Four Sail Windmill, they can then climb through the three levels of the Windmill, viewing the mill stones and workings. From there, they proceed to the Great Five Sail Windmill of Skerries with its stunning elevated views of the Mountains of Mourne, Rockabill Lighthouse, St. Patrick’s Island (site of the saint’s first monastery in Ireland) and Skerries Town.

The tour ends back in the main Watermill and Bakery building where guests can enjoy not only the Watermill Café, but also the award winning Gift Shop and Artisan Courtyard with its unique patrons.
