Gorta Swatragh’s Famine Story
Gorta is an immersive visitor experience that combines compelling storytelling, striking design, and innovative technology to explore the remarkable legacy of Dr. Mooney.
Inspired by the discovery of a famine pot and a famine window at Friels Bar & Restaurant, the centre tells the story of Dr. and Sarah Mooney’s soup kitchen during An Gorta Mór. Developed with leading historians and local experts, the attraction features interpretive displays, audiovisual experiences, and unique bog oak sculptures.
Gorta offers visitors a meaningful place for learning, reflection, connection, and heritage discovery.
