Marsh’s Library
Marsh’s Library is the oldest public library in Ireland, opened in 1707. Still working as a library, we welcome visitors to view exhibitions of our collections spanning the 15th – 18th Century.
Readers such as James Joyce, Bram Stoker and Jonathan Swift have studied in the Old Reading Room. Books have been caught in wayward bullet fire from the 1916 Easter Rising and still retain the bullet damage.
View the cages wherein we locked readers in an effort to prevent book theft. Visitors can also visit our gift shop and end their visit in our private garden.
