Skerries Mills

Skerries Mills is a truly unique historical site, as it’s the only location in Europe that boasts two windmills, a watermill and bakery. The oldest mill on the current site dates back to c1460. The watermill / bakery, four sail and five sail windmills each have national monument status and have won awards for their restoration into working condition. It has a very good reputation for its visitor experience part of which is the working waterwheel.

Situated in the picturesque seaside town of Skerries in County Dublin, Skerries Mills offers visitors an opportunity to understand how Ireland’s ancestors harnessed wind and water energies through the unique combination of onsite buildings that include the Watermill and Bakery (where flour has been milled since the 12th century), the Four Sail Windmill, dating back to c.1460 and the Five Sail Windmill dating back to c.1821. As visitors move through the 5 acre site, they can try their hand at stone grinding, witness the 17th century water wheel in action.

Visit the traditional reed thatched Four Sail Windmill, and climb through the three levels of the Windmill, from there, they proceed to the Great Five Sail Windmill of Skerries with its stunning elevated views.
