NMI – Turlough Park
Set in modern exhibition galleries in the spectacular grounds of Turlough Park House and surrounded by magnificent gardens. Visitors experience traditions of rural life throughout Ireland from 1850-1950 in the Award-Winning Museum of Country Life.
Fascinating artefacts, which are drawn from the National Folklife Collection, deal with domestic life, agriculture, fishing and hunting, clothing and textiles, furniture and fittings, trades and crafts, transport, calendar customs, leisure and religion. With our interactive displays, screens and actual video footage of traditions, that we are quickly losing, are featured alongside handcrafted harvest knots and wickerwork, spinning wheels and boats, clothing and artefacts from the islands and hand operated machinery our grandparents used.
