Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre is situated in the picturesque, coastal, heritage town of Dalkey. The visitor experience is enhanced by a fully guided, immersive and fun tour.

Costumed actors from Deilg Inish Theatre Company bring the history to colourful life on every guided tour. An Archer will defend you, a Barber Surgeon will cure your ailments and the Cook will tickle your taste buds with the recipe for hedgehog pie. Visitors can learn about the site’s history from Early Christian, through Viking, Medieval, Tudor and Victorian times to the present day. Dalkey Castle dates back to 1390 and has all the features of the larger Irish castles: Battlements, Arrow-looped windows, Garderobe, Murder Hole and Machicolation. Today, it has an integral state of the art Heritage Centre with historical information in 12 languages. The Castle also houses a Writers’ Gallery which celebrates the work of great Irish writers and creative artists from Joyce to Bono and Beckett to the world-famous Maeve Binchy (a regular visitor to Dalkey Castle) who lived locally. These writers are further celebrated in the Maeve Binchy and Irish Writers Guided Walks in the summer and at other times by request. Discover Dalkey’s Literary Gems and the Maeve Binchy Tribute Show are two separate, bespoke literary stage shows which can be performed in the evenings by prior arrangement. Lasting one hour, these fun-filled literary shows- with tasters from the greats of Irish literature- are ideal to be partnered with dinner locally.
