Located on the banks of the majestic river Shannon in the centre of Ireland, Clonmacnoise was one of the most important monastic sites in Europe.

Today visitors can stroll around the site viewing the ruins of the Cathedral, 3 High crosses, 9 churches, 2 round towers and the largest collection of Early Christian grave slabs in Europe. The original High crosses, some of the best examples of this type of art work in Ireland, are now located in the purpose built museum along with an exhibition on the flora & fauna of the area.

An audio-visual presentation St Ciarans City Fair is available in the visitor centre. The centre is fully accessible for visitors with disabilities, the site is partially accessible.

On-line booking is available and advisable. Groups of 14+ must pre-book by contacting the Visitor centre at: clonmacnoisebookings@opw.ie. Clonmacnoise is open all year around except for 24-26th December.
